The theory

There's no dedicated large-scale clinical study on tallow specifically — that's a fair, real gap, and any brand telling you otherwise is overstating it. A 2025 analysis of the most-viewed tallow-skincare posts across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok found that 82% recommended it for skin use, while scientific evidence was described as minimal and risks were rarely mentioned in the same content — worth knowing before treating any influencer's routine as proof of anything. What does have real backing is the underlying lipid chemistry: a 2024 scoping review describes tallow's fatty acids as functioning both as an emollient (smooths and softens) and an occlusive (forms a protective barrier), which is the mechanism side of the theory above, separate from the clinical-outcomes side that's still missing.
